71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

Foxtel has again established its place as the home of the world’s best drama and entertainment content with the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations announced overnight.

Following its epic finale season this year, Game of Thrones (FOX SHOWCASE) is leading the pack with a huge 32 nominations, the most for any program in a single season, which includes 10 nominations for cast contributions across five performer categories. Kit Harington has been nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Emilia Clarke, Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Over its eight-season run, the series has received a total of 161 nominations.

One of the most talked about and compelling new series this year, Chernobyl (FOX SHOWCASE) scored 19 nominations, including Jared Harris for Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Another standout, the biographical drama series Fosse/Verdon (FOX SHOWCASE) scored 17 nominations, which included Sam Rockwell for Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie and Michelle Williams for Lead Actress.

Long running comedy series Saturday Night Live (The Comedy Channel) scored 18 nominations including Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, Adam Sandler and John Mulaney for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series and Emma Thompson and Sandra Oh for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. An additional comedy standout was Barry (FOX SHOWCASE) picking up 17 nominations.

The groundbreaking and history-making series Pose (FOX SHOWCASE) was awarded a nomination in the Outstanding Drama Series category, and its star Billy Porter was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series is Succession (FOX SHOWCASE) and Game of Thrones.

Comedy favourites Barry (FOX SHOWCASE) and Veep (FOX SHOWCASE) were nominated again this year for Outstanding Comedy Series. Bill Hader has been nominated for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Barry) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Veep).

Amy Adams was awarded a nomination for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in the confronting series Sharp Objects (FOX SHOWCASE) as well as Patricia Clarkson as Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Newcomer Joey King was nominated as Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for The Act (FOX SHOWCASE) with Patricia Arquette awarded a nomination for Supporting Actress.

Special nomination nods also went to Jessica Lange for Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her chilling role on American Horror Story: Apocalypse (FOX SHOWCASE) and Laverne Cox for Orange Is the New Black (FOX SHOWCASE).

Foxtel shows account for a total of 217 Primetime Emmy nominations across its Drama, Comedy, Entertainment, Factual and Kids channels. The 2019 Emmy Awards honour television’s highest achievements in artistic endeavours and feature a multitude of titles which are exclusive to Foxtel’s Australian subscribers.

The 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast LIVE and exclusively on Foxtel’s FOX8 channel direct from Los Angeles on Monday September 23 at 10am. The telecast will also be available to stream on Foxtel.

Also, on Monday September 23, E! Channel will broadcast its E! Live from the Red Carpet: The 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards special from 8am LIVE.
