Foxtel announced today the launch date for the second season of the epic fantasy series His Dark Materials, set to premiere on Tuesday, November 17 at 8.30pm, screening on FOX SHOWCASE or watch On Demand.

Based on author Philip Pullman’s award-winning books, His Dark Materials season two will explore The Subtle Knife the second book in the trilogy. Writer and Executive Producer Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) returns for the TV adaptation.

The accomplished ensemble cast includes Dafne Keen as Lyra, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, James Comso as Fader Coran, Ariyon Bakare as Lord Boreal, Clarke Peters as The Master, Amir Wilson as Will Parry and introduces Andrew Scott as Colonel John Parry – Will’s globe-trotting father.

Ruth Wilson shed some light on what to expect from her character in season two; “What was really joyful this season to play with, was to get into her circumstances more… What she’s had to deal with as a woman in a very male world, the sacrifices she’s had to make and at what cost”.

His Dark Materials season one received a 2020 BAFTA Television Craft Award for Special, Visual and Graphic Effects. His Dark Materials is produced by Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema for BBC and HBO. Executive producing the series are: Dan McCulloch, Jane Tranter, Joel Collins and Julie Gardner for Bad Wolf; Philip Pullman, Tom Hooper, Otto Bathurst; Deborah Forte, Toby Emmerich and Carolyn Blackwood for New Line Cinema; and Ben Irving and Piers Wenger for BBC One.
