For the past few decades Australians have been making an impact on the film industry in Hollywood both on and off screen and what better way to celebrate their success with a dedicated Aussies in Hollywood Pop Up movie channel on Foxtel over the Australia Day long weekend. See Australia’s most powerful Hollywood heavyweights with all your favourite Aussie actors, actresses and directors doing what they do best on the silver screen in back-to-back film hits from 6am on Friday January 26 to Monday January 29, 2018 on Foxtel Movies.

The Aussies in Hollywood Pop Up movie channel includes a host of films starring Award-winning actors and actresses at the top of their game with Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, both Chris Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Joel Edgerton, Sam Neill and so many more, alongside films directed by the renowned Baz Luhrmann and Mel Gibson.

Films shown as part of the Pop Up include:

AUSTRALIA (2008): Directed by Baz Luhrmann. Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by Japanese forces firsthand. Also stars Aussies Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

AVATAR (2009): Starring Sam Worthington. A paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

BAD NEIGHBOURS 2 (2016): Starring Rose Byrne. When their new next-door neighbours turn out to be a sorority even more debaucherous than the fraternity previously living there, Mac and Kelly team with their former enemy, Teddy, to bring the girls down.

THE DARK KNIGHT (2008): Starring Heath Ledger. When the menace known as the Joker emerges from his mysterious past, he wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, the Dark Knight must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.

THE GIFT (2015): Starring Joel Edgerton. A young married couple’s lives are thrown into a harrowing tailspin when an acquaintance from the husband’s past brings mysterious gifts and a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years. Also stars Aussie Nash Edgerton.

GLADIATOR (2000): Starring Russell Crowe. When a Roman General is betrayed, and his family murdered by an emperor’s corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge.

HACKSAW RIDGE (2016): Directed by Mel Gibson. WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people, and becomes the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing shot. Also stars Aussies Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, and Sam Worthington.

THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR (2016): Starring Chris Hemsworth. Eric and fellow warrior Sara, raised as members of ice Queen Freya’s army, try to conceal their forbidden love as they fight to survive the wicked intentions of both Freya and her sister Ravenna.

THE IMPOSSIBLE (2000): Starring Naomi Watts. The story of a tourist family in Thailand caught in the destruction and chaotic aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (2016): Starring Liam Hemsworth. Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind’s new space defences be enough?

JURASSIC PARK (1993): Starring Sam Neill. During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES (2016): Starring Isla Fisher. A suburban couple becomes embroiled in an international espionage plot when they discover that their seemingly perfect new neighbours are government spies.

LION (2017): Starring Nicole Kidman. A five-year-old Indian boy gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometres from home. He survives many challenges before being adopted by a couple in Australia. Twenty-five years later, he sets out to find his lost family. Also stars Aussie David Wenham.

LOGAN (2016); Starring Hugh Jackman. In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X, somewhere on the Mexican border. However, Logan’s attempts to hide from the world, and his legacy, are upended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.

LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (2001): Starring Cate Blanchett. A meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron. Also stars Aussie Hugo Weaving.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (2016): Starring Ben Mendelsohn. The daughter of an Imperial scientist joins the Rebel Alliance in a risky move to steal the Death Star plans.

SUICIDE SQUAD (2016): Starring Margot Robbie. A secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.

TROY (2004): Starring Eric Bana. An adaptation of Homer’s great epic, the film follows the assault on Troy by the united Greek forces and chronicles the fates of the men involved.
