Thank you to David Sims for sending me this. 🙂

Foxtel today announced the evolution of the Foxtel Guide app designed to augment the viewing experience through social and interactive features.

The updated Foxtel Guide app integrates features powered by zeebox, a leading social TV app, and provides viewers with a ‘second screen’ TV experience to interact with while watching their favourite shows, or simply as a comprehensive TV Guide enabling them to find out what’s on.

The easy to navigate program grid can be customised by adding favourite channels and filtered to display only specific genres such as sport, entertainment and movies. The new ‘On Now’ section clearly indicates programs viewers can watch on their TV immediately.

The app also allows viewers to get a taste of each program with a mini synopsis that opens when a program is selected. The mini synopsis can further expand into a full synopsis for selected channels with more detailed information along with program related content including links to news, apps and downloads powered by zeebox.

Viewers accessing the full synopsis are shown a Program Panel that contains detailed information on the program; a Social Panel that allows users view and post related Tweets, and share what they’re watching; and a zeebox Panel that offers an interactive twist featuring custom content for selected shows such as quizzes, polls and behind the scenes video to make the viewing experience even more immersive.

Familiar advanced features are still available in the updated Foxtel Guide app including ‘More Like This’ recommendations to help viewers discover new shows they will love as well as ‘Remote Record’ and ‘Channel Change’ to allow customers to control their set-top box directly from the Guide App.

Michael Ivanchenko, Foxtel’s Director of Product, said, “the Foxtel Guide redefines TV companion apps for our customers by integrating an easy to use new interface with in-depth social media and content information into one simple to use app. It’s the perfect response to today’s media smart and connected viewers who enrich their TV experience via multiple screens to chat, shop and discover content while enjoying great programming.”

Since the Foxtel Guide App launched in 2009, there have been over 2 million downloads to mobile phones and tablets.

The updated Foxtel Guide app is now available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch or at www.apple.com.au/itunes and Google Play for both Foxtel subscribers and non-subscribers. Subscribers must register to use Remote Record with a username and password at www.foxtel.com.au/register or via the app itself.
