Subscription television will once again dominate the 72nd ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS which honour the best and brightest talent in film and television, when they air live on FOX8 on Monday January 12 – red carpet from 11.00am, with the awards ceremony from 12.00pm.

Nominations were announced in the US overnight, with Foxtel shows scoring a massive 32 Golden Globe nominations across blockbuster hits including Girls, Orange is the new Black, Ray Donovan, Veep, Shameless, True Detective, Jane the Virgin, The Missing and Louis which are screened over five of Foxtel’s most popular channels – showcase, FOX8, SoHo, BBC FIRST and The Comedy Channel.

Foxtel’s showcase channel received 23 of those nominations across 10 of its ground-breaking series.

Olive Kitteridge, the new HBO mini-series drama that will premiere on showcase in January 2015, received three nominations: Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television; Best Performance by an Actress in Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television – Frances McDormand; and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television – Bill Murray

Based on Elizabeth Strouts Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, Olive Kitteridge tells the poignantly sweet, acerbically funny and devastatingly tragic story of a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, told through the lens of Olive (Frances McDormand), whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and staunch moral center. The story, which spans 25 years, focuses on her relationships with her husband, Henry, the good-hearted and kindly town pharmacist; their son, Christopher, who resents his mothers approach to parenting; and other members of their community.

Also receiving three nominations is the upcoming new drama series The Affair, which will premiere on showcase in February 2015.

At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah (Dominic West) is a New York City schoolteacher and novelist who is happily married, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison (Ruth Wilson) is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of a tragedy. The provocative drama unfolds when Alison and Noah meet in Montauk at the end of Long Island.

The Affair has been nominated for Best Television Series – Drama; Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Drama Series – Ruth Wilson; and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Drama Series – Dominic West.
