Renowned chef and restaurateur, Matt Moran’s, food odyssey continues when the second season of the award-winning, Paddock to Plate, premieres Wednesday, September 3 at 8.30pm on The Lifestyle Channel, only on Foxtel.
With more than 20-years in the food industry, Matt hits the road again to meet the best growers and farmers in Australia. And once he’s got his hands on their produce, he’ll turn it into a mouth-watering dish.
Season 2 sees Matt clock up more than 20,000km in search of culinary treasures, travelling through the stunning landscape of South Australia and Western Australia. From the blustering coastline of the Eyre Peninsula to the red dirt and big skies of the Kimberley, Matt discovers a vast spread of unique and exciting produce and the food heroes who farm it.
“There are so many incredible farmers and growers out there – this beautiful country of ours is just bursting with amazing produce. The changing seasons and climates of the lesser known regions of South and Western Australia offer up some really fantastic and unique produce, and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to cook with it for the second season of Paddock to Plate.” Moran said.
It’s a journey of discovery as Matt dives with Blue Fin Tuna; musters sheep and cattle in the outback; visits a host of fruit and vegetable farms and gets his hands on the surreal electric blue maroon (something he’s never seen before). He also makes his first visit to an alpaca farm, cooking and tasting alpaca meat for the first time.
Matt enters Carnarvon’s biggest annual fishing competition, and the pressure is on – he’s competing against 300 other fisherman and a local, hungry shark.
Paddock to Plate has food, and the people who produce it, at its heart. Matt visits the doyenne of Australian cooking, Maggie Beer, who was one of the first people to farm pheasant in Australia, and Robert St. Duke, a colourful cheese maker who loves to experiment. Matt also goes to the Top End where he meets Brian Lee, an Aboriginal guide who shows him the secret to catching mud crabs.
As Matt travels the country, he gives back to the communities who have welcomed him, by preparing feasts for local heroes such as 75-year-old Rex Dyer, celebrating his 40th year of volunteering for St. John’s Ambulance; cooking a curry for all the competitors in a local sheep dog trial and acknowledging the incredible work of John Cripps, who created the Pink Lady apple.
