Foxtel is proud to present the fifth season of the Emmy®- and Golden Globe-winning comedy series GIRLS from writer/director/actor Lena Dunham, focusing on the ups and downs of a group of 20-something friends in New York City.
As Season 5 begins, Hannah (Lena Dunham) is, for the moment, putting her writing ambitions aside, continuing to work as a teacher alongside new boyfriend (and refreshingly nice guy) Fran (Jack Lacy) – a relationship which her friends urge her not to screw up. Meanwhile, Marnie (Allison Williams) micro-manages her upstate wedding to her musical partner Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), but upon returning from the honeymoon, begins to realise she needs more space, literally and figuratively. Jessa (Jemima Kirke), working towards becoming a therapist, tries to stay on the straight and narrow, while managing a budding relationship. While Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), makes a brief return to the U.S. for Marnie’s wedding, is thriving at her new job in Japan, where she flirts with her boss despite her long-distance relationship with Scott back home. Honest and uproarious, with unexpected surprise turns, GIRLS’ fifth season promises to maintain the series’ place as one of the most talked-about shows on television.
A signature HBO comedy series, GIRLS premiered in 2012 to great acclaim from critics and fans. The series won two 2013 Golden Globe Awards – for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy and for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy (Lena Dunham) – and has received a total of 14 Primetime Emmy® nominations, winning for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series in its first season.
As for the guys of GIRLS: Adam continues to pursue acting while his personal priorities begin to shift. Ray, after vocally opposing Marnie and Desi’s marriage, ends up focusing his energy on a new coffee shop across the street from his, which he fears is stealing from his business. And Elijah, struggling to form an identity while working at Ray’s, meets and begins to date a famous news anchor named Dill Harcourt.
GIRLS’ cast regulars include Lena Dunham as Hannah; Allison Williams (NBC’s Peter Pan Live!) as Marnie; Jemima Kirke (Tiny Furniture) as Jessa; Zosia Mamet (Mad Men) as Shoshanna, Adam Driver (Star Wars: Episode VII) as Adam; Alex Karpovsky (Inside Llewyn Davis) as Ray; Andrew Rannells (The Intern, The New Normal) as Elijah; Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Lola Versus) as Desi; and new cast regular Jake Lacy (Obvious Child) as Fran. New and returning guests this season include Rita Wilson (The Good Wife), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent), Corey Stoll (Ant-Man), Aidy Bryant (SNL), Jason Ritter (Parenthood).
